… we end as we started, 21 days ago. Now waiting at the airport for our flight back. Over, and out.
… it is cleaning, dumping and refilling time, before we successfully dropped off our RV back in anchorage today, after 2607 miles of adventure. Then we spent the rest of the day doing that .. resting (in propper beds, first time in a while) and strolling around Anchorage once again…. and a bit shopping. Tomorrow…
We made our way back to Turnagain Arm to get a headstart on our final leg, bringing us back to Anchorage tomorrow after an awesome time. But now it is time for a last meal on the road, highlight is -most certainly- todays catch. Then we are up for packing our stuff and a…
Today was our last day and some went cruising the glaciers and some went, well, fishing of all things. But also other things seen were quite impressive.
… was a bit cloudy this morning, so we went to the Alaska Sealife Center … and then for some live-Sealife, before we paid Exit Glacier a brief visit under blue sky and sunshine ☀️
What we did not account for was, that Kenai is a popular weekend spot for Anchorage … and guess what, it’s Friday, so Seward is booked. But against all odds we did manage to sweep up the last spot at Stoney Creek Campground, and it is not bad at all. Time for evening relaxation now…
… for the last time we are on a longer drive, this time from Denali to Kenai. On the way we stopped in Talkeetna … … where i did indeed managed to find that store again, where i went to purchase a replacement toothbrush 15-odd years ago on my first (long weekend) trip to alaska.…
So today was backcountry day. 530am morning call to catch the 700am backcountry shuttle for what turned out to be a 4 hr ride to the back country. We learned that there are six things to see in denali to catch a “grandslam”: Denali (not hidden in the cloouds) – ✔️✔️ Dall Sheeps –…
Last night we stopped by a nice brewery pub (49th State Brewery) to eat and check out the magic bus … First day at denali was all around the visitor center, where most of the few trails start. Namely the Mt. Healy Overlook and the Horseshoe Lake trail were todays activity. Tomorrow…
… to Denali National Park.
… kind of. Since fairbanks, not unexpectedly, is more of a base camp than a tourist town, and the morning remained to be drizzly, we did a quick walk about downtown and then decided to check out a wildlife resort. But besides a few brave birds that did not mind the wet weather, they were…
After a long day of driving, mainly in miserable, rainy weather, and a quick stop at North Pole (no kidding) … … we arrived in a wet and cold Fairbanks where we will stay until tomorrow, do a bit of city seeing, not sure if there are that many “sights” in the common sense of…
… is, no doubt, the propper name for this stretch of our route. After a night in the gold rush town of dawson city, we tried our luck panning for gold … … but never made it beyond the trying phase ? followed by a quick stop at what looks like a house but was…
… to dawson city, yt.
… in the capitol of yukon territory , whitehorse … with its whopping population of slightly above 23000, making it -by far- the largest city, having 2/3 of all of yukon’s population. Breakfast among trees on a beatiful day, with a 28C forecast, which turned out to be more than accurate. Finishing off the day…
… to Kluane National Park.
Nice two days of hiking in kluane np. Far away from all the modern stuff, like internet, electricity and running water 😉 Dinner in style, meat on the open fire in the middle of nowhere canada. First hike was a 15km loop on the Auriol Trail and a couple of shorter ones on day two.…
… to Canada!
… in the wilderness. Nice 5 hr hike along cariboo trail in wrangell-st. Ellis NP Finishing off the day with our first night out in the wild, staying at kendesnii campground in the park. Cooking and all 😉 But f#*%ing cold at night … brrrr! New day, nice walk up a -sonewhat – dry river…
… at the zoo. A somewhat lazier day than yesterday. Seems all admission fees here are $15 actoss the board, regardless of the value one is getting 😉 After that we went for an excursion in fermentation techniques … at anchorage distillery. And tomorrow we are “off for the wild” … at 1130 we’ll see…
… the city with the small town feel, an eclectic mix of cultures and about the highest per capita ratio of awesome eateries. Today we picked up our home on wheels for the next 18 days. After essentials shopping, food and various repellants (mosquitto and bear) … … we are on the road north-east wards.…
Nice stroll along the coast, 11km, warmer than expected. Afternoon at the Anchorage museum.
… 2245h in Anchorage 😉 … good night!
… with slight delay though, as our gate change in frankfurt was caused by a thunderstorm which basically brought large parts of the airport to a stand still for obvious reasons. i would not want to work among metal tubes and explosive fumes during a lightning storm either … but because of that, we had…
… to new frontiers. But first …
B44 to C19 in FRA is not quite “around the corner”. So *not* that the passengers actually made the way before the checkin staff … but at least the sign seems to know what’s going on So fingers crossed that the plane makes the change, too.
… it is time to leave the old world behind us and embark on a new adventure. This time the destination is the “last frontier”, Alaska. Our plans are, no doubt, ambitious. So ambitious that even Google Maps decided to bail out (hence the small gap in our route, wich is not really a gap,…
… but not only did we arrive tired, but safely back in vienna, but also our bags made it all the way … all of them 🙂 Four perfect weeks have come and gone. Loads of new things we saw, impressions we got, experiences we earned … an unforgettable journey in short. Apparently for some…
… we’re almost ready to go. How fast 4 weeks can pass. We visited a floating forest, had a last look at sydney and a last pie. now we are packing up and prepare ourselves for our 330am pickup towards the airport with a pizza feast, courtesy of domino’s. Signing off now. See y’all on…

… now you are on google streetview 😜 So when you ever streetview the area between sydney and blue mountains, in particular the area of hazelbrook along the great western highway, and find a blue toyota camry with 4 people in it, that might be us …. WE … ARE … FAMOUS ! Nice…
After a stroll through newcastle and a dolphin sighting we reached our last stop here in oz. Moved into a friends place here in sydney and will discover more of the city over the next couple of days. Updates might be sparse at times due to limited internet access though!
… the last two days in retrospect. Your browser does not support this video 🙁
… and drive-heavy today on our last long stretch of road towards sydney. Still we managed to hit a beautiful place at dorrigo national park.
… are impressions from yesterday.
… to wake up to! Nice welcome from our host. Lazy day to come today.
… When we wake up tomorrow, i am sure. Made our way to byron bay with a stop at the koala sanctuary to complete our wildlife encounters (this time with a little assistance). After dusk we arrived at our pad up in the hills above byron bay … What we could see in the dark…
last night there was another “shower” … quite impressive. either the houses here are not sound proofed at all or it really was *that* loud … “woke up and stayed awake” loud … note to self: showers are different south of the equator 😉 but on the upside, the weather today was perfect. blue skies,…
… after a leisurely drive from hervey bay down the sunshine coast, well today it was more the “coast” as the lack of sunshine really painted a different picture, we arrived in brisbane. unfortunately the weather is not as nice here today, but really not a problem. only the notion of “showers in the dry…

Finally wifi is back. Now we are rolling out a few posts in a row. Might be a bit too much at a time, but you wouldn’t want to miss our Airlie Beach adventures, aye? 😉
… one more thing … today was a long driving day through -and i quote the travel guide- “probably the most boring stretch of queensland” and man, how right they were. good thing we decided to spend this day in the car to drive down from mackay all the way to hervey bay, where we…
